One of the best all-round phones in any price range!

One of the best all-round phones in any price range!
I have seen several 3-star reviews and 4 star reviews here, and I honestly feel, at this particular price point, the phone absolutely does not deserve it. Over my 6 year stint as a smart phone user, I can say I have only used top tier phones as my daily drivers. And when one of my friends wanted to purchase a phone in under 15000 INR, we decided to take a leap of faith on this one and boy were we pleased! Looks - Better than the pictures can manage to convey The first surprise is the build quality. When the phone arrived, I was very sceptical about how good the phone would look, and I can say that outside of the Sony Phone line-up, this was the ONLY phone that really managed to completely astound me. We decided on the blue one, and boy were we delighted! The border is a deep, royal blue and looks good in practically every light. The front is all black (Screen) and the back is also curved glass all black that looks like it is aiming to hit several notches above its weight. The best part is that it does succeed. It is really one of the most beautiful phones I have held in recent times (Sony phones being the exceptions). Ergonomics - Not slippery (There is an amazing back cover included) The design is a fingerprint magnet, but it is so delightfully succulent that you will excuse it. And you can click pictures using the volume keys and the buttons feel nice and clicky. The tactile feel deserves 5 stars. The capacitive buttons on the face are responsive and backlit and are as good and as responsive as any other phones I have used. In the 10 days of use, there has been no cause for complains. Battery Life - Lasts through the working day Looking at phones at close to 5000mAh batteries, we were not sure how this would fare. But as it turns out, our fears were happily unfounded. It easily lasted through the day with moderate use. Heavier use might necessitate a handy charges, but if you want to simply use it for whatsapp, the occasional browsing, the average 30 to 45 mins of calling and a fair bit of selfies - lasting through the day should not be a problem at all. The performance - Mediatek shows its mettle. This is the first mediatek phone I have ever used. Being used to top tier Exynos' and Snapdragons, I was not sure how this would handle everything, but the processor seems to be very capable. The regular games run without any lag or stutter. The camera opens up in a snap. I did not have to close the background apps in any way. Despite having installed Go Laucher (which is a resource hog) with several themes and all the bells and whistles turned on, there was no noticeable difference. Unless you want to play really graphic intensive games at full resolution, there will be little for you to be worried about. The backcover - excellent stuff! Lenovo thoughtfully included a transparent, very classy, superlatively built back cover that adds protection without taking away the beauty of the phone. Apart from the extremely expensive Ringke, and Spigen clear cases, I have not seen such a good back cover anywhere. Lenovo really deserves a pat on the back for it. The User Interface Since I am not the end user of the phone, it does not matter to me much. But in all honesty, I am not fan of the Lenovo vibe UI, but it is definitely much better than the previous iterations, and it now looks more like the Nova Launcher with a slight bit of theming and it is not all that bad a thing. Cameras: The dual front cameras work as advertised allowing you to refocus where you want, allowing you to change the background of selfies and the software comes along with a decent photo editor that allows you to apply filters. The rear camera is snappy. While the cameras are good. The front camera is fantastic (for those who love selfies, and among the best I have seen) but the rear camera is not that stellar, throwing in a decent performance with neutral colour reproduction. There is some noise in the pictures, but at this price range, wanting a camera that performs akin to phones that are twice the price of this is really reaching. If you are looking for a good-looking phone, and love selfies, and want to store a lot of media on your phone (32Gb built in), you will not go wrong with this.

      Verified Purchase
I have had the Vibe S1 for about 2 weeks now. I am upgrading from Samsung Note 2 which I used for 3 years. I was looking for a 4G phone and something lighter and smaller than my 5.5 "/188g Note2. I picked S1 for the price point, and the features I was mostly looking for were 4G, 5" AMOLED/Gorilla glass, decent battery, and something I can carry in my hand while running to use with my running apps. Turns out S1 is quite good but there are some quirks.

Wifi Quality: Wifi coverage is good. In rooms where my note 2 would struggle for signal, S1 does a far better job

Call/Signal quality: With Airtel 3G that i used for the first few days, the call quality was bad in certain rooms where Note 2 would not have a problem but with 4G SIM, I am facing no such issues. The call quality is clear. One quirk i found was when browsing contacts, and you select a contact say with a name beginning with S, when you "go back", it goes to the top of the contacts list (beginning with A) rather than where I was looking last (S in this case).

Performance: The UI is intuitive, fast and slick -I am not a gamer -so can't really speak to that. The heating while charging or upon continuous usage is negligible in my opinion. The colors are quite vibrant and I liked the fact that the pull down has many most used features such as "Torch"/"Screen shot"/ Screen Cast etc readily available.

Camera: I am not too happy with the rear camera. I think Note 2 bad better, more natural colors than the S1. S1 HDR mode delivers good picture but there is no image stabilization and the HDR shots take time to capture the image. The non-HDR images are just about okay in broad daylight. The selfie images are okay as well, but I did have problems with the camera on a few occasions where it would just freeze on me.

Battery: For my usage, the battery seems more than adequate. I usually charge to 100% overnight, and at the end of the day with 3-5 calls covering about 30 min duration, and a few Whatsapp and FB usages of an hour, the charge is at 50%. Much better than what i got with my 3 year old Note 2 with 3100 mAH battery.

Overall Verdict: If you are looking for a phone in the 15-20k range, this is a good phone to have. It is light, visually pleasing and has a decent UI and the performance is not too shabby.
